THE ONTAKE DISTILLERY
Operational since December 2019, the Ontake distillery was established by Nishi Shuzo, a company with origins dating back to 1845, primarily known for producing shochu, including Tomino Houzan. Located at an altitude of about 400 m in the Satsuma peninsula, Kagoshima, the distillery offers stunning views of the bay and city, along with access to pure mountain water—ideal for crafting a pure, aromatic, and flavorful whisky.
The Ontake distillery features exclusive architecture inspired by private clubs and museums, as well as a unique golf course
owned by Nishi Shuzo. Its first public bottling was released in 2023, showcasing whiskies made from non—peated malt aged in Oloroso sherry casks.
This state—of—the—art distillery produces award—winning single malt whiskies and offers an unparalleled experience for its exclusive cask owners. A standout feature is its private 18-hole golf course, accessible only to cask owners and their guests.
